The ePod is an innovative concept created for providing a temporary shelter to the victims affected by natural disasters. The advantages of this ePod concept over conventional halls are the availability of comfortable beds and spacious room for the victims. In fact, the victims will have enough privacy with their family. The designer has created this concept to participate in the competition organized by James Dyson Foundation. The theme of the contest was to “Design something that solves a problem”. ePod perfectly suits the theme and provides a better solution during emergency periods. Apart from the solution itself, the concept has many more advantages.
ePod - Emergency ShelterThe ePod is a temporary form of shelter for victims of natural disasters.
The world has seen many disasters like Tsunami, earthquakes, terrorism, etc., in the recent years. The devastation effects of these disasters have left thousands of lives homeless, and with no hope to live further. Seeing such critical conditions, the designer realized that he had to do something to save their lives and give them new hope for living. At the right moment, the James Dyson Foundation had announced the contest on this theme. The Ireland based designer rightly used the opportunity not only to provide a solution, but also to exhibit his vision to the world.
With right inspirations, the designer started setting his goals. After visualizing the concept in mind, the designer started making pencil sketches on papers, until he became satisfied with the design. The designer had rightly utilized the help of an engineer by getting his suggestions and critics on the initial sketches. This clearly depicts the designer’s passion in making the concept not only for providing a solution but also to check the feasibility of the concept during the designing process itself. The designer tweaked a lot with the initial sketches. Once, he arrived for a final feasible design, he started making the three dimensional design using the Computer Generated applications.

The availability of privacy to the families of the victims is one of the highlight of this concept. Almost, nobody would give importance to the privacy, during such tragic incidents. ePod also provides green energy for the victims by extracting energy from the sun rays, by means of solar panels designed on the top of the Pod. In fact, the designer wished that ePod will be manufactured from Polyethylene, which is completely recyclable. This feature is possible because of the method in which the body panels are produced. They are manufactured by rotational molding, which is the reason for making the materials of the concept recyclable, but at the same time, making them durable even in extreme weather conditions.
Another highlight of this concept is its cost effective design. Surprisingly, ePod can be manufactured at a rapid rate without incurring heavy costs. The spacious design of the Pod also allows the victims to store their things, which were recovered from the disaster. The feasibility of this product seems very high and if manufactured, this would be one of the best solutions for providing shelters during emergency situations. The hard work undertaken by the designer is worthy, and precise to the theme of the contest. Let us hope that such concepts would begin their productions very soon.

The progressively growing and developing Chinese economy reveals an inadvertent burden of its ever increasing population. The expanding population puts increasing pressure on the economy's resources, which do not increase proportionally. Transport is an essential ingredient in individual's lifestyle. And finding an alternative for the continuous depleting fuel inventory can bring in much relief. This is depicted in Eric Zhang’s Concept 2-wheel vehicle.

The height and length of the vehicle can be adjusted according to the user
Eric Zhang's Concept 2-wheel vehicle has given a fresh appeal to driving. This concept is aptly suited for the present scenario where each drop of fuel counts. The Modulated Bicycle is potentially an effort to combat the concern for the economy's depleting fuel resources. Besides being a relief for the fuel inventory, this Modulated Bicycle can also help in decreasing the pollution level. An apt implementation of the concept can help in directing the economy's resources towards more productive channels. Alternative resources can help in shaping up the economy for the better and saving on the expenses made on purchasing fuel from other nations.
Modulated Bicycle features
Eric Zhang has gained the insight from the traditional Chinese 2-wheel vehicle. The concept of USB has been implemented in the Modular Bicycle, wherein the different parts can connect to give multiple dimensions and functionality. There are many attractive features of this bicycle which make it an apt choice for the riders.
The bicycle measures 1.1 m X 0.8mX 2.2.m (height, width and length). Right from adjusting the seat to other dimensions (like height and length) of the vehicle, you can 'fit' in the bicycle to suit your diverse needs. It has a main body with three modules designed to customized needs. The main body can also be used as an exercising or transportation tool without these modules.
The GPS and 3G technology allows the rider to remain connected at all times. You can also enjoy real city racing with the technologically powered vehicle. Whether it is an SOS or finding any location, the navigating tools are always available to your rescue.
The storage module provides you an attractive 50 l space for enjoying comprehensive shopping or packing up for the weekend picnic. There are three individual rooms; one of them works as a refrigerator. It gains power from vehicle itself.
Engine and Power Module
This module is powered by a micro engine and hydrogen battery, enabling easy distant traveling. The battery is re-chargeable and does not pollute, and can give a speed of 35m/h. While your Power Module gets recharged, you can use the main body of the bicycle for some other purpose implementing the other two modules. You can also use the bicycle without any of the modules incorporated (just the main body).
The Modulated bicycle is economical as well. Your vehicle gets a different appeal just by switching to another module. There is no need to revamp the entire vehicle or buy a new one to enjoy an enhanced riding experience.
The designer, Eric Zhang, specializes in Industrial Design, Design Management and Packaging. He believes in watching, thinking and enjoying. Other popular works include Electronic Retail Vehicle, A Growing Book and the cute Bubble Head Camera.

With a challenging design created by SolidDesign Consultancy, SDC Torch/Lantern or SDC x50 comes out as a multifunctional device behind which the basic idea was to develop a realistic usable product. After an intensive research and trying on several different concepts, this creative design was finalized to be molded into a torch/lantern.
SDC x50SDC Torch/Lantern
This device can be concerted to a torch or a lantern per the user’s multiple requirements majorly for outdoor use. SDC Torch/Lantern’s design includes a perspex that exists in the shape of a light bulb. Its light beam can be changed using a rubber sheath fixed at the holding end. The rubber sheath can be moved forward for the spotlight beam and retracted for functioning as a lantern. There is also a compass fitted on top of the lantern that acts as the power button. Additionally, the lantern design includes a hanging hook so you may hang it at a convenient place to light it up or simply to stylize the decor.
This torch/lantern has a smooth and glossy look that helps modernize it to suit the present-day product requirements. The edgy design and elegant black-silver color combination gives this product a very classic touch. The device has aluminum housing, and its rubber sheath also has an aluminum ring covering it. That makes the design look more special. SDC Torch/Lantern produces a very soothing white glow that lights up a place in the perfect manner.
