HydroRight Drop-in Dual Flush Converter: Save water by choosing between two flushing modes Posted: 06 Jan 2012 03:13 PM PST Jaspreet Kaur Walia: Have you ever thought how much water one wastes while using the water closet? Unfortunately, the same amount of water is used to flush liquids, paper and solid waste, which leads to a lot of wastage. Here, to keep a check on the amount of water required to keep the water closet clean is the Blue Source HYR270 HydroRight Drop-in Dual Flush Converter. Blue Source HYR270 HydroRight The dual flush converter is easy to install and doesn't require any tools. It will fit into all standard 2 and 2 ½ inch flush valves and will delete the need of removing the tank as well. It won’t take more than 10 minutes to fit the tool and will be completed as soon as the converter is attached to the existing flush valve. The IAPMO certified dual flush converter will swap the flapper, which is the biggest reason behind water leaks and in turn wastage.
A user will be able to choose from two flushing functions- the full flush and the quick flush, which will be possible when the dual flush convertor is installed. The quick flush setting uses lower water volumes and will prove to be useful while flushing paper and liquid. On the other hand, the full flush setting will use normal volumes of water when solid waste has to be removed. The water flow is automatically and quickly adjusted inside the tank, depending on the setting selected by the user to flush waste. Blue Source HYR270 HydroRight Drop-in Dual Flush Converter will kill the need of buying an expensive and hi-tech dual flush toilet that helps save water. One will be able to enjoy the same advantages by fixing the converter to their old closet. The design consists of a two-button handle, which is easy to use and will help flush properly. This handle will let a user select the amount of water required to flush waste. HydroRight will let a user save almost 30 to 50 percent of water when it comes to flushing, which is quite appreciable. This means that almost 15,000 gallons of water can be saved annually by a family of four when this inexpensive converter is fitted. According to USEPA, approximately 20 percent toilets leak and waste 73,000 gallons of water every single year. This wastage mostly occurs because of faulty flappers. But, HydroRight will solve this problem permanently as its dome gasket is fitted in the drain hole, which will eliminate leaks and tangled or broken chains. Blue Source HYR270 HydroRight Drop-in Dual Flush Converter will not only help save precious resources but money as well. The easy to install converter is economical and will help construct an efficient toilet. Via: Amazon/ igreenspot |
Unit Fusion Housing Project: A modular tower that unfurls a harmonic living network Posted: 06 Jan 2012 02:09 PM PST Jaspreet Kaur Walia: Scarcity of space has forced designers to come up with concepts that will utilize space in an ingenious manner. Increase in population raises the demand for housing and this will be achieved in an utmost style in Hong Kong. Y Design Office, an International design and research collaborative, has come up with a conceptual modular tower named Unit Fusion. The attention-grabbing building will be located in WKCD, Hong Kong and will give an all new meaning to housing.
Unit Fusion Housing Project The 75 story tower will be a high-rise plug-in residential typology that will have a height of 427.5 meter. The prefabricated unit will comprise of 1960 residential units that will be truly exceptional and modular in nature. Residents will be allotted unique units according to the specific zoning strategy. It will bow down to all the needs of every individual and in turn unfurl an unparalleled living experience. The design will make good use of vertical space that will result in an amazing democratic living concept.
Picture Gallery A new alternative high-rise residential typology integrates within WKCD urban environment It will endow a user with the flexibility to choose from various unit types that will be similar to picking clothes. These cubes will be tagged as XS, S, M, L and XL, depending on their size. The units can be further customized with different features, like bathroom, kitchen, balcony, closet and entry, according to individual needs. These modular units have a life cycle of almost 30 years and need maintenance at least once in 5 years to ensure superior living conditions. These units can be further re-located, thus letting individuals explore full capacity of the tower. Unit Fusion Housing Project will let residents savor panoramic views with the help of a private exterior space, which will be provided in the form of a customized balcony. A unit will be re-located every 5 years, which means a person will be able to enjoy 6 different locations throughout the tower in its 30 year life cycle. This will give birth to harmonic living and will also create a strong bonding between units. Unit Fusion is an architectural marvel that will be responsible for exact site conditions. Zoning, occupant location and orientation of the prefabricated tower will be defined by conditions such as wind direction, historical axis and sun angle. The structure will be divided into four zones at 3rd, 20th, 40th and the 75th floor. Each zone will provide pedestrian connection between floors and also make sure that public services are provided to the users. A sky-lobby will be located every five floors and a specific area of each floor will have a sky garden. These diverse public programs will serve the public and create harmony. Unit Fusion Housing Project will put forward aesthetically pleasing views and its modular nature will let a user utilize the space perfectly. Via: Bustler |
Sensitive Touch: Touch sensitive gloves to turn lifeless prosthetic arms into an enviable body part Posted: 06 Jan 2012 01:43 PM PST Jaspreet Kaur Walia: Prosthetics are a true blessing for people who have lost any of their limbs during a mishap. They give a second life to such humans and pumps that lost confidence in them. No doubt, these artificial limbs make them less handicapped but they don't let people with disabilities feel with their artificial limb. Making the impossible possible is Daniel Kamp who has designed intelligent gloves for prosthetic arms. Christened Sensitive Touch, these gloves have been specially designed for a start-up company named Footfalls and Heartbreaks.
Sensitive Touch Gloves The company has come up with an intelligent fabric that can easily register stretch, compression and pressure, which has been further used to make Sensitive Touch by Daniel. Sensors in the form of F&H intelligent fabric are used in the hand that help a user feel with their existing artificial arm. The product will deal with emotional issues that crop up while using artificial limbs because of the lack of sensitivity. The touch sensitive glove will come equipped with a feedback system that will be used for prosthetic arms and let users feel with their artificial arm.
Picture Gallery Sensitive Touch is a touch sensitive glove for prosthetic arms Individual sensors have been placed on the palm, thumb and four fingers as an electric current keeps passing through these sensors constantly. When pressure is applied on any of these sensors, it changes the electrical resistivity. The conductive fabric has an electric circuit that carries current. Current is carried from the battery placed in the upper arm cuff to the fingers and back. Further, the circuit board in the cuff registers all the changes in electric resistivity and changes them into electrical outputs. Stimulation in the glove is caused when electric pulses are given off to the skin by palm, finger and thumb representations. Users in turn experience accuracy and firmness of touch when these pulses are graduated. This means that touch stimulation in the glove through small electric pulses is turned to the skin of the remaining limb. Sensitive Touch won't require an amputee to buy a new prosthesis as it will work well with the user's present mechanical arm. Sensitive Touch can be customized as per a user's whims and fancies. It can be custom fit as per the fingerprints and hand shape of the buyer. One can pick it from a variety of colors, which will feel just like purchasing a well-fitted dress. The glove is made in such a way that it is exactly the shape of a user's hand. Such a precision is achieved with the help of laser etching and 3D technology, which makes sure that each and every detail is a mirror copy of the hand. The glove can be removed and is easy to wash. It comes tagged with a lot of practical and emotional advantages that may range from holding a glass of water with correct pressure to feel the pressure of a lover’s touch. The lifeless prosthetic arm will be swapped into a functional body part, thanks to Sensitive Touch. |
Posted: 06 Jan 2012 01:30 PM PST Ruchika Pahwa: There has been this interesting journey of the human being from remaining nomadic in ancient times and then as a settled individual toward getting to become a modern-day nomadic once again. Keeping this concept in mind, the AIRchitecture shelter has specially been developed to serve the needs of the modern-day nomad who wishes to build a strong connection with nature, as well as with the concrete world. As people living in the contemporary society have portability and safety concerns, this unique shelter is designed to offer quick assembly and easy transportation to just any place.
AIRchitecture shelter The design for this shelter aimed at providing an adaptable solution for just any wild environment, be it offering a temporary shelter on a hill or a stable and secure shelter under natural catastrophic conditions. Inspired by the environmental bubble design from Reyner Banham, the AIRchitecture shelter has a plastic surface that can be inflated. Also, a portable air inflator can comfortably be carried in the backpack so the user can have a shelter at just any place. The best of this strong and compact shelter comes to front when there is an emergency situation. It may work as a stable emergency kit when there is some kind of natural disaster and people need to protect themselves under a shed.
The AIRchitecture shelter forms a connection between man and nature with minimal barriers. This lightweight unit offers physical protection under adverse conditions but does not impact the nature. This bubble-shaped shelter has transparent and mirrored surfaces that are joined using a sealed zip fastener. The user may quickly enter this container to get physically isolated from the surrounding. When the surface gets fully enclosed, the user may turn on the air compressor, which would further lead to surface inflation and creation of a spherical shelter. Via: Cargocollective |
