Ovia Integrated Power Reserve provides energy when you actually need it Posted: 29 Feb 2012 05:30 AM PST Asmita Prasad: The Ovia Integrated Power Reserve by Sophie Wijaya is created for regions in the developing world that still experience frequent power cuts and shortage. Since a lack of electricity directly leads to loss of productivity after sunset and proves to be a big hindrance for small businesses, people at home as well as children who need to study. Most of these people have traditionally relied on fuel-based lighting options though they are generally considered bad for health because of the toxic fumes they produce and tend to be a financial burden since the fuel required to use them is often costly.
OVIA Reserve Power Moreover, the spread of electronic telecommunication in the developing world has also resulted in these regions requiring additional power though they are forced to use backup generators to fulfill their needs so far. The Ovia Integrated Power Reserve thus looks to serve as an energy efficient power reserve that can recharge itself using grid power when the supply is there and can be used to power a laptop, cellphones, lights and other small electronics when there is a power cut. Aimed at the active user of new technology between the ages of 18 to 40 years, the Ovia Integrated Power Reserve can provide sufficient backup power for indoor use in a home or office with a maximum floor space of 600 sq. ft. The lower to middle income consumer can also purchase and use the device without putting in a huge down payment. The device can also be carried from room to room that makes it better than fixed installation and can be carried around by traveling salesmen, students living away from home etc. Source: Sophie Wijaya |

The device is battery operated and uses cellular technology to connect to something like a medical cloud to keep information regarding the patient's intake of medicine. This allows both doctors and caretakers to keep an eye on the patient's regularity with taking their prescribed medicine and allows patients to remember and monitor their own drug usage. The portable dispenser can connect to the customer and the doctor/caretaker via phone, text and email and keep them connected to an interactive cloud database that is enhanced by real-time medical ecosystem support. The MedPod thus helps ensure high compliance among patients with a busy lifestyle, seniors who have a hard time remembering when to take their meds and even children who often forget when to take their medicines, which ones to take and in what quantity. By pre-sorting the medicine, the device also eliminates the possibility of accident overdose. Source: Ro Brady |
Sustainable project to decanyonize the Italian city of Cagliari Posted: 29 Feb 2012 02:17 AM PST Radhicka S Saxena: Though SantÉlia is situated at the southern point of Cagliari, it is disconnected from rest of the region. Apart from geographical impediments like canyons, there are many reasons why the area is cut off from rest of the land mass. Firstly, it has earned a bad name for its notoriety. Additionally, the social housing project of the 1970s also earned a bad reputation. But a restorative project, that might change all this, is on its way.
Sustainable project for Italian city of Cagliari
Picture Gallery An urban solutions for the city of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy Firstly, although the land mass has a unique terrain, it is nevertheless a useful one. The city is located at an exquisite waterfront. It has a characteristic topography, which is a complex amalgamation of interactions and flows surfacing into a series of joints and fields. A plan that uses regenerative patterns promises a new beginning for the city. An arrangement that suits the topography of the site is being planned. The systemic and developed approach of pattern recognition is being applied to generate sustainable solutions. The nodes and fields on the ground will form the basic framework for this new urban space. The configuration developed will be adaptive and non-programmed. It will have block like structures interconnected by swinging pathways. This new age multi-modal construction will be quite a landmark. The city will be transformed into an urbane space that conforms to its natural terrain. The changes in the new plan will afford many advantages. The housing project will be revived. A technique to irrigate the land area will also be employed. Also, the city will be reconnected to Cagliari. The suave and well planned project will completely transform the appearance of the landscape. Via: Sucker Punch |

Sporty Supaheroe cycle jacket
Picture Gallery Sporty Supaheroe cycle jacket boasts “intelligent” sensors and dynamic LEDs Let's put across the basics first. Made from organic cotton wool, the jacket is layered with water proof fabric. Despite its thickset stitch, one can breathe in it comfortably. Also, the fabric is stretchable thus allowing for easy mobility. The dapper looking piece comes in a beige tint. LED circuits with white webbing are patched on the arms and torso giving it a suave touch. The front panel flashes a white light while the back of the jacket scintillates in red. Loaded with wearable circuit boards, about 64 RGB LEDs have been fitted on it. The hi-tech features keep a tab on the movement of the biker when they are riding. The gyroscope and acceleration sensor display information about any movement on the jacket for others to read. The LEDs at the back flash red when you brake and flicker only on one side when you go sideways. The jacket also has a smartphone call alert for those who don't want to miss taking important calls while they are spinning around. This alert system lights up the screen and activates the sensors as well as the LEDs. The cool and handy piece for cyclists is a creation of the Utope Project, which is a conjoint effort of the circuits division at Fraunhofer IZM and designer Wolfgang Langeder. No word on the pricing yet but the jacket will definitely hit the market this year. Via: Gizmag |
Trendy Sine Chair to support musical endeavors Posted: 29 Feb 2012 12:03 AM PST Christina Pinto: The idea of Sine Chair emerged from the creative mind of Kent Madden, a graduate of Mechanical Design at SAIT Polytechnic. Adept at industrial design and graphic design, he created the chair for musicians who yearn for a small, soothing open seat to practice or write their music. The chair's concept was derived from the curvilinear shape of a sine wave, which is why it has a very unique outline. Another reason is to increase the level of comfort an individual experiences in the chair, providing a casual relaxation zone for the person.
Sine Chair
Musicians can stretch out their legs in any direction and lean back against the back rest, or curl up in a cross legged position. Enough space has been allowed in the design for the sitter to feel the most at ease in his pursuit of creative expression. It is 1m wide and 0.75 m high. Understanding the requirements of musicians, the designer installed strong string grips in all the three cushions to hold the sheet music. This is a great asset to musicians who want to read and write music in their favorite chair.
Rigid piping ensures the chair has a sturdy structure and chrome legs maintain the balance of the structure. Luxury sleek cushions with good stuffing cover the inner seats of the chair, maximizing the sitter's satisfaction. The butt rest also looks very snug and supportive. Another special feature is the amazing acoustical properties within the area of the Sine chair. Musicians can play any instrument, immerse themselves in the sounds and concentrate on improving their skill. It is even possible for avid readers to enjoy their favorite reading material in relative coziness. Finally, the chair is very striking and attractive due to the bright colors it is available in. Ion Wireless Air Mouse Glove substitutes mouse for a ninja PC gamer Posted: 29 Feb 2012 12:01 AM PST Asmita Prasad: Here's a product that looks awesome on paper but in real life, using it is probably going to turn your brain to fudge. The reason why we say this is because though this nice mouse claims to make gaming and computing simpler by allowing users to use intuitive wrist and hand movements to make PC gaming a breeze. And even though the glove mouse comes with a pause button, the company hasn't unveiled any features that assure us that the glove mouse wont register inputs when you accidentally use your predominant hand for common unmindful bodily responses like holding your hand up to your face when you sneeze or bringing your hand up to your eye when something suddenly falls in your eye or even when someone standing behind hands you something and you immediately reach out with your predominant hand to accept it.
Ion Wireless Air Mouse Glove
Anyhow, since you're going to be practicing how to control an on-screen cursor with simple wrist and finger movements, we're guessing you're also going to spend some time practicing ninja-like self control to use your non-predominant hand to react to involuntary physical actions or make sure you hit pause every time you feel your gloved predominant hand responding to being poked in the eye unexpectedly by a mischievous fly.
Ion Wireless Air Mouse GloveIon Wireless Air Mouse Glove Promises to be as Ergonomic as it is Functional The mouse replacement lets your wrist, fingers and hand control all the functions of the mouse including scrolling, right and left clicks and has a USB-free wireless range of 35 feet so you can hit pause and safely eave your desk without having to take the glove off every time. The Ion Air Mouse Glove costs $79.99 though you might have to pay a little extra for ninja self-control classes. Via: Slashgear/ Everything USB |

Boîte is a modular meeting room with a relaxed setting Posted: 28 Feb 2012 11:52 PM PST Radhicka S Saxena: This modular structure, christened as Boite, has been designed to hold official meetings, will leave executives thoroughly contented. Mostly, meeting rooms are uptight and formal, but the ambiance of this one is completely different. Devised to hold small gatherings, the sturdy space has a transparent and casual setting. The nifty cabin is available in a number of varieties and finishes.
Boîte Modular meeting area
Though modular, the structure is quite robust. The basic framework is solid and tough. Stamped and welded sheet metal is used as the primary hulk of the meeting room. All components are attached to this basic skeleton, thus they stay steady and reinforce the strength of the enclosure.
The area is perfect for lounging about and holding a casual meeting. It is easy to reach out to the low flexible table. The seats stationed along side are also quite comfy. The cubicle is based on the research conducted in conjunction with Herman Miller. It has all amenities that you will need to hold a typical meeting. The space is well illuminated with LED lights, which are cost effective, eco friendly and also neat to look at. The low table fitted inside has a thoughtful design. You can easily rest a coffee mug on it or lean forward and take notes. With the spin of a hinge, you can also convert the table into an ergonomic work surface. The meeting space is available in three different configurations, namely, open, closed and double. The open concept has a relaxed setting while the closed one has a glass enclosure allowing people to speak candidly on sensitive and confidential topics. The double Boite is more spacious and can accommodate eight instead of just four people at a time. Source: Douglass Challer |
The OPMOD Battle Mug gets a sleepy sharpshooter his daily cuppa on the job Posted: 28 Feb 2012 11:09 PM PST Asmita Prasad: If there was ever a perfect metaphor for the commercialization of war and a few sick minded people using international political conflict for bettering their bank balances, this OPMOD Battle Mug is probably it! With 3 military spec rails, the mug can be used to mount any of the usual accessories that you can on a rifle, right from lasers to night vision add ons and even telescopic lenses if you wish to eye a donut in a patisserie a few blocks away!
OPMOD Mug
The OPMOD Battle Mug is fashioned out of a 13.5lbs 6061 T6 aluminum block and one of its rails even comes with an AR-15 rifle handle to lend a touch of authenticity to the war-ready coffee mug. The mug is rounded off with a Mil Spec Type III Anodized finish and can even hold a mammoth 24 ounces of liquid that will let you stay hydrated or awake for a few hours or days even. And like all things military spec and war-like, the mug too is overpriced and costs a mammoth $250 (you could probably get a gold-finished, diamond-studded mug for that amount) but since it's probably going to be one the most publicized "real man's mug" this year, you might as well save up and get this for your significant other just so he doesn't have to feel bad in front of all his friends who drink their beer out of it!
