iPhone Beamer can project movies on a wall Posted: 27 Apr 2012 05:49 AM PDT Asmita Prasad: Created as a design study for an application to the Department of Industrial Design (HGK Zurich) at the University of Zurich, the iPhone Beamer Concept by design student Andreas Bhend is one of the more refreshing iPhone-based concepts that we have seen in quite some time. Instead of simply being a case for the iPhone that comes with a projector upfront, the Beamer allows users to use the laser mini-beam to project content like games, videos, photos and applications directly on a wall in front without requiring an additional piece of hardware.
iPhone beamer The projected image will be fully interactive as well. Controls for the projector are provided along the edge of the frame and access the functions of the phone externally. To make using the iPhone Beamer simpler for the average user, the designer has provided it with just a very few basic control buttons including a plus and minus button that can be used to enlarge the projected image. A special “Rec and Play” function allows users to test their creativity with the projected images. The projector allows users to make video calls and watch movies without straining their eyes. The Beamer is also fitted with its very own set of rechargeable batteries that can be used as a backup to the phone's power system and can be used to recharge the phone if needed. [Thanks Andreas] |
CO2 powered Mechanical Wings are the geekiest pseudo-bionic sculpture ever Posted: 27 Apr 2012 05:40 AM PDT Asmita Prasad: The story of Icarus and the powerful story of his failed ambition is very well known. However, the good designers over at Bionic Concepts think that the problem could have easily been fixed if Daedalus had simply used metal and LED lights to fashion the wings his son used to escape the Crete. Fitted with brilliant LED light effects, the pair of gas-powered mechanical wings doesn't do much other than basically swinging open and swinging shut in spectacular fashion but we bet they are really good for putting the love of god in unsuspecting public for sure.
Mechanical Wings
Picture Gallery Gas Powered Mechanical Wings Version 1.5 with backpack and brilliant LED Light Effects At the flick of a switch, the wings open to 4.5 feet wide that ensure that no one dares to invade your extended personal space and no, despite what the seller of this thing calls himself, the wings do not provide any bionic functionality whatsoever. A handheld control pad allows you to time the opening and closing of the wings and the light effects and a set of 8 AA batteries powers the LEDs used in the wings which are powered by small CO2 gas cartridges. Each cartridge is good for 40 opening and closings and the pair comes with 6 CO2 cartridges included in the purchase. With the limited functionality and what seems like a potentially hazardous mode of operation (which may leave you or someone standing close to you maimed or decapitated), we really don't think many people in their right mind would want to own a pair like this but if you're still interested, the Gas Powered Mechanical Wings can be yours for $810 Canadian dollars. Give your friends a ring with this Android powered Rock Smartphone Watch Posted: 27 Apr 2012 05:40 AM PDT Radhicka S Saxena: Mobile phones don't sell unless they have doodads like cameras and music players slotted in. However, here is a gizmo that treats making phone calls as secondary. The gizmo is essentially a watch that also lets you make calls. Phones that have watches are commonplace but now you have a watch that incorporates a calling function. Aptly dubbed as the Rock Smartphone Watch, a brief walkthrough of its features is given below.
Rock
Apart from making calls, one can also send and receive messages on this gizmo. Its 2 inch capacitive touch screen is amazing and you will like watching snaps and videos on it. Oh yes, another thing! You can even go online with this watch and the Bluetooth ear set slotted in helps you make phone calls. Click snaps and record videos with its 2MP camera.
Another high point of this watch is that it works on the terrific Android 2.2 OS. The piece boasts of fully functional electronics. The time piece has a SIM card slot and also a micro SD card slot. It has an internal memory of 262 MB, which can be extended to 8GB using the TF card provided with the watch for free. The wireless enabled piece also embeds an 800 mAh battery. All these traits make it one heck of an incredible buy. The piece is totally groovy and has simple clean lines on the outside. It looks super stylish and can make anyone look cool. With the Android OS, you can download as many games and apps you want. Staying wired is definitely crucial in today's fast paced life but keeping a watch on the minutes ticking by is even more important. Maybe, this handy gizmo will set the priorities right for all of us. Via: Chinavasion |

The @Ant concept from Chery transforms from an automotive to a locomotive Posted: 27 Apr 2012 05:15 AM PDT Christina Pinto: One of the innovations of the Beijing Motor Show was the @Ant concept, a car like you have never seen before. Everyone is familiar with trains, one of the most reliable public transportation. Well, the @Ant concept could probably one day compete with it. @Ant concept's remarkable ability is possible with the help of specially designed automated telematics systems. The wheels are not only cool in design but they have an actual function too, which is pairing of the rear wheels and the front wheels of @Ant concept cars. Wheels linked in such a fashion make it easier to form a train system for the road.
Chery @Ant concept
In-built cloud systems in the cars share information, particularly the destination. An understanding is reached between the agreeable parties and they unite towards their common destination. If a car deems it necessary to stop in the middle of the journey, it can detach itself from the car train and move away, allowing the car behind it to reattach in its place and continue in the same manner. Maximum ten @Ants concept cars can be connected together for a singular journey. You have to appreciate the cars' beauty. Its compact body exhibits sleek curves and a smooth outer casing with a glistening finish. The wheels are positioned appropriately to allow maximum utility. High occupancy lanes usually shared by buses and trucks would be suitable for the succession of cars, whose close spacing reduces the highway footprint. No weaving in and out of lanes. A professional driver would be the designated leader to guide the rest of the cars. Skeptics doubt this car as a viable idea, as there are many concerns. One such being the decision of the lead driver, who could be someone incapable of exerting efficient command over the rest of the cars as well as over questions about the car’s maneuverability on packed roads. Stealth Touch Mouse is what it takes to be more ergonomic Posted: 27 Apr 2012 05:14 AM PDT Sahil Khurana: Giving a strong competition to Apple's Magic Mouse, the new scrolling entrant in the market is Manhattan Stealth Touch Mouse. Stealth is also pretty much a touch mouse like its counterpart, however, it definitely boasts of an ergonomic approach, making it the obvious choice over the rest of the touch mice.
Stealth Touch Mouse
Picture Gallery Stealth Touch Mouse Gives the Apple Magic Mouse a Run for its Money The new mouse works in pretty much the same way, making it everyone's favorite instantly. Fixed with a capacity to click like any ordinary mouse, Stealth lets you perform your duties like any other device. You can page down, page up, scroll up and down as you would in any normal mouse. The design is very user friendly, and is fatter than Apple's Magic Mouse. The mouse has been increased to a height of 1.15" high as compared to the usual version of 0.5". The design may very well be sleek and can be combined with any version of computers, right from Mac to Windows. When compared with Apple's Magic Mouse, the mouse failed to enthrall people as it's compatible with Mac only and does not allow people to use it for long hours. Definitely, the deep black color, and the rich shape of the mouse is what makes it a clear cut winner over any other types of mouse. Via: ChipChick/ Manhattan-Products |
Would you dare to poop in this luxury penthouse bathroom? Posted: 27 Apr 2012 04:08 AM PDT Asmita Prasad: We're not sure what the evolutionary reasons for this are, but most people have reported inability to defecate unless they feel absolutely comfortable. Most people have also reported that even though they may have wet their pants in fear, they are completely unable to, er, "go number 2" when they feel threatened or scared which may explain the phrase "scaring the s**t out of someone". With that kind of knowledge being so commonplace, we really have no idea as to what may have motivated designer Hernandez Silva to put a glass floor in the bathroom of this 15th floor luxury penthouse which incidentally sits over an abandoned elevator shaft!
Luxury Penthouse Bathroom
Picture Gallery This Luxury Penthouse Bathroom Will Literally Scare the Sh*t Out of You Located in Guadalajara, Mexico, the said elevator shaft was originally meant to be used for a second elevator unit which unfortunately didn't pan out. Instead of letting that space go to waste, the designed created a powder room on top of it and decided to bestow it with a killer view, no pun intended. Located at the 15th floor of that sits at the upper end of an old Mexican colonial style building built in the '70s, the PPDG penthouse is a modern interpretation of the style of the era though it is the said powder room, that offers a nightmarish view of the exposed walls of the seemingly bottomless elevator shaft, that makes the whole flat very remarkable indeed. 2025 Fiat Prime City Car Concept is yet another 'fail' on the future car design scene Posted: 27 Apr 2012 04:07 AM PDT Asmita Prasad: For some odd reason, automobile designer seem to think that car buyers in the future will be attracted to boxy, and rugged-edged vehicles that look something like go-karts (yes, go-karts not the race cars found in high end Formula racing) that are found at circuits at local amusement parks. Unattractive and unimaginative as the prospect is, designers still keep going back to the basic unappealing silhouette and the Fiat Prime 2025 City Car Concept by designer Joshua Shercliff is yet another disappointing addition to the genre.
Fiat Prime Concept
Intended to be a sports car/ pod hybrid, the single seater apparently is designed for the urban shopaholic who doesn't really care about hogging half the road as long as the boot of their car can hold all the loot they scored from the sales at their favorite mall. Like many other impractical designs in the genre, the Fiat Prime City Car Concept too fails to account for the kind of fuel it would take to operate such a massive structure and what a shameless waste it would be to have such vehicles ferry around one person at a time while occupying all that space on roads and in parking lots. Of course the designer has included the mandatory glass canopy that he claims would be sectioned into seven pieces to make the cabin feel less claustrophobic. The panoramic roof is also designed to slide back with a reverse scissor motion to make the user feel like a celebrity. The super low slung roof too is another attempt at trying to offer the sports car experience to the average driver though the designer makes no mention of any mechanisms that come even remotely close to the safety mechanisms that sports car with similar rooflines offer driver to prevent them from fatalities in case of an accident. Brydge keyboard transforms your iPad into a laptop Posted: 27 Apr 2012 04:06 AM PDT Radhicka S Saxena: Your iPad is a dandy gadget but one shortcoming does crop up when you try to use it more often. The slick gizmo does not have a good quality keyboard. People who are looking for a solution will like the idea of the Brydge keyboard case. When connected to your iPad, it converts the gadget into a laptop. Here are some more features of this remarkable gizmo.
Brydge Kickstarter project
The machined and anodized piece will gel with the look of your iPad as it is made from aerospace grade aluminum. Its clamp has a thermoplastic elastomer casing and is made from metal alloys and magnets. The 0.33 inch thick device standing at 1.3 pounds makes an 11 inch MacBook Air weigh 2.74 pounds. The piece will append with your laptop easily as it has a height and width of 9.5 and 7.3 inches respectively.
Working does become easier with this attachment. The gizmo boasts of a full QWERTY keyboard. To ensure that it remains the largest available keyboard for iPad, the beveled edge of the gizmo is made as this as possible. It connects to your iPod by means of a click-in hinge that allows for close to 180 degrees of iPad positioning. It locks tightly to your iPad using a combo of friction and magnetism. The smart gadget connects to your iPad using Bluetooth so you won't have to deal with wires. The gizmo will sync with the new iPad and also iPad 2. The hi end model also has speakers slotted in. When the product rolls out, it will cost $170 and if want a unit with speakers, then you will have to shell out $210. But if you are a part of the kickstarter campaign, then you can get it for just $150 or $180 if you also want the speakers. Many people out there will be kicked about converting their iPad into a laptop and making it look like MacBook Air. Via: Cnet / Kickstarter |
