Vintage Jag crucified for environmental sins

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 05:42 AM PST

Shallu Sharma:

Everything that's born or created has to die someday, be it an individual or a car and this reality exists for everyone and everything. And it is always good to see things ending up in a grand way that started up and lived throughout superbly. We are talking this in context of a vintage Jaguar that has been crucified on the kitchen wall like a trophy or a cross. This Jaguar has reborn as a bookshelf, which makes it one of the most unique sustainability innovations.

This one of its kind bookshelf design was created at Denieuwegeneratie studio. Some important modifications were made to make it bookshelf worthy. Its engine was removed to reduce its weight and its roof was cut in rectangular shape for creating space for shelving. A little bar set up was also formed by converting car's trunk into cabinet space.

Creatively reusing this fuel-consuming car that doesn't even fit anywhere in the life of an environmental ascetic into something surprisingly tasteful and useful was a big challenge for the designers. This car was converted into a bookshelf as a part of the project called as "Dutch Mountain". Dutch Mountain is a green home with each and every part of the house created in an environmentally friendly fashion. Lark wood of immediate surroundings was used and the house produced more energy than it consumed. This car doesn't look awkward being surrounded by a teapot chandelier and a staircase made of skateboard deck, though it's a little pain to see a stunning piece of machinery turned into kitchen furniture.

Asmita Prasad:

During their recently held internal TechFest event, Microsoft demoed some of its latest research work in the guise of a wearable multitouch projector. The software giant has recently unveiled a lot of cool breakthrough tech including a transparent 3D desktop, the Holoflector and the Illmuishare. Their latest creation is a fully interactive surface that allows wearers to use the wall as well as their hands or arms to interact with the projector that is worn on a user's shoulder.

Similar to the design of the existing Windows Phone, a graphical user interface can be broadcasted using the technology and the demo video launched by Microsoft shows off exactly how this is done. A pico projector and a depth-sensing camera detect functions like scrolling, pinch-to-zoom and touch interactions and provide the user with the functionality to interact with projected images.

At the moment, the interactive wearable multitouch projector is in the conceptual phase though Microsoft hopes to be able to miniature the hardware significantly to allow a variety of surfaces to be used as touch interfaces. This would open up almost unlimited possibilities for the use of the technology in applications ranging from forensic sciences, police work, medical apps, scientific and academic presentations as well.

Foldable BE Light minimizes intrusion when not in use

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 05:08 AM PST

Shallu Sharma:

An innovative lamp baptized as BE Light has been designed taking inspiration from the art of folding a leaf of paper into sculptural three-dimensional shape. But instead of using paper, metal has been used to craft this fascinating light for obvious reasons. When not expanded the lamp has a flat minimalistic appearance and turns to an elegant slender lamp on expansion all thanks to its adjustable arm that is easily stretchable like a folded piece of paper.

BE Light,is an LED desk lamp that folds and sports a unique articulated design

The BE Light is a distinctively articulated LED table lamp that could be easily folded because of its witty hinge design that enables it to be extended to a height of 33.4cm. The counterweight design is a smart feature that keeps the arm stiff and makes it stand firmly on the desk. The lamp could be extended to an angle up to 135 degrees thus making it perfect for reading, writing or for doing any other intricate work. And when not in use it takes least amount of room on your table with the fold of only 1.8cm of height.

Though crafted in aluminum but still this lightweight lamp is very sturdy because of its intelligent design. This LED light, like all other QisDesigns features Light Guide technology for uniform distribution of light, eradicating glare issues. It has got a refined metallic finish that makes it look like a stylish sophisticated piece of art on your desk. The best part about this foldable glare-free lighting is that when not in use this flat panel never intrudes in your work. You can buy this flat Apple keyboard-like lamp at 490$.

Jaspreet Kaur Walia:

If you thought that only Tarzan and Jane could live in the trees, then the Tentsile Tent will swap this desire of yours into a reality. Camping is fun and helps us connect with nature, but campers always have to fight with bugs and other crawling creatures when resting inside tents. And if it rains, then the wet or waterlogged ground will pose all the possible troubles that you cannot even anticipate.

The off ground structure has been designed by British designers and comes fitted with loop straps that will be placed around tree trunks resting above the ground. The temporary shelter is easy to assemble and is strong enough to hold maximum 12 people, depending on its size. It has a unique inverted pyramid shape and is available in three sizes, which will provide a safe environment for 5, 8 and 12 people.

The comfortable tent can be used in a variety of environments and comes injected with a lot of portability. The frame can be snapped apart easily and has infill panels plus webbing straps that have been fashioned out of polyester fabric, which is water proof, fire and UV resistant. The lightweight accommodation for campers is very stable and adaptable. It comes fitted with a rope ladder that makes getting in and out of the tent quite easy.

So, next time when you go camping, simply fix Tentsile Tent off the ground and forget about clearing unwanted foliage. The tent is just perfect and will provide a safe accommodation and will kill all fears of crawling insects and unsafe frames.

Christened as the Grand Touch Aston Martin phone, the smartphone is famous not only for the brand names it carries but also for the resources used in manufacturing that makes it exclusive. The body of the handset is CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machined from aluminum blocks and anodized for everyday handling. An exclusive look is given depending on the model by inserting mother of pearl (MOP) or Ebony wood below the surface of the device. Variation can be seen in models with their bodies cut in solid brass with yellow gold or rose gold accents. One thing which is common in all models is scratch-resistant sapphire crystal to guard the touchscreen. Single piece sapphire crystal covering the battery hides its sliding mechanism.

Cloud 10, an airborne architecture situated in the airspace

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 05:03 AM PST

Jaspreet Kaur Walia:

Everyone have must dreamed of living in those fluffy clouds at least once. The dream is about to come true in the form of this out of this world architectural marvel named Cloud 10. Just like the clouds float in the sky, Cloud 10, as is suggestive from the name will be airborne.

Cloud10
Cloud10 is airborne, inflatable architecture

The earth is getting crowded and is packed with people, leaving less space for everyone. This pushed architectures to erect buildings that touched the sky and now has triggered them to use the open skies to house people. Cloud 10 has a bottom up approach and has a self organizing architectural system. The awesome structure explores the potential of deep blue skies, which will provide spatial solutions on a daily basis in terms of programmatic operations.

The structure will flexibly adapt to the surroundings and won't harm it in any sense. The architectural mass is nothing like regular ideas and its organization as well as composition is solely based on various conditions that exist in today's world. The air-borne and inflatable Cloud 10 is an all new image of airborne urbanism, which utilizes systematic redundancies as well as is stable in terms of mobility.

Cloud 10 has been fashioned in a way which will not compete with existing infrastructure but will in fact complement them further adding to the overall charm. So, the thought of discarding old for the new takes a backseat in this case. The novel architectural structure is self adaptive and its environmentally responsive behavior makes it all the more desirable in this polluted world.

Mridul Jerath:

The environment is an important issue of discussion in the present scenario where everyone is trying to be eco friendly. To join in all the efforts, our furniture also needs to be environment friendly, which will be beneficial not only for us but also for the earth. Some people are possessive over their furniture while others hardly notice its presence. Making environmentally confident selection for interior decoration can make a remarkable variation to the earth and to your health. The contemporary need for sustainability has fascinated huge number of innovative designers who use all kinds of recycled material to design modern furniture.

Hanging bookshelf which is also Collapsable, given the flexibility of the film

Baumm's Lucas Desimone and Laboratori's Matias Resich, two well known designers from the Buenos Aires combined recycled material with dexterity to come out with a fresh innovative brand VU35, which concentrate on making products from wood and recovered movie film. The latest of their creativity is this cute hanging bookshelf made out of wood and plastic movie films which otherwise are difficult to dispose off as waste. Such bookshelves are ideal for small homes and also for the people on the move as it is collapsible and hence easy to carry.

The bookshelf can be hanged in the place of your choice either in the living room or as a decor to your bedroom. The discarded material used for making this bookshelf was provided by Desimone who had a previous collaboration with the movie distributors, whereas the wood required came from Laboratori's workshop. The wood used is of the perfect type keeping in mind that it would provide a strong support to the weight and would not amend or bend with time. This neat and flexible bookshelf is selling for about 85 US dollars and by all means reflects the designer's carpentry skill.

The furniture made out of recycled material is durable and easy to fasten. Such material is cost effective as it saves natural resources of earth thus making it a healthier planet.

Drinking fountain to conserve water for tomorrow

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 03:59 AM PST

Shallu Sharma:

A survey made by Nature (Journal) revealed that about 80 percent of the world's population lives in areas prone to water security threats. These water security threats if not treated on time can pose serious problems for human beings and nature as well. Various strategies are being employed to save water and drinking fountain by Eliel Cabrera is a similar step in the same direction.

The YBR_drinking fountain has been designed and integrated with the philosophy of the original project as a part of the YBR design range. It's a cost-effective project with simple design crafted using minimal material. The body has been created using cast iron and painted with black forge Oxiron and phosphatizing primer for imparting anti-oxidant properties. The fountain combined with YBR sewer grate makes a complete set.

The fountain comes with the mechanism that gets activated by a button that controls water consumption. To save water, the mechanism automatically cut down the water supply after few seconds even if you had pressed the button. To reuse the fountain you just need to press the button again.

The fountain comes with 1000mm extension above the ground level and 100mm below the ground for fixing it firmly. The grating rest crafted in metal encase go well with the pavement. This creative design if implemented correctly can prove a great help to save water for tomorrow.

Bentley EXP 9 F setting a new benchmark for luxury vehicles

Posted: 09 Mar 2012 03:45 AM PST

Asmita Prasad:

Bentley is presenting an all-wheel drive luxury SUV Concept called EXP 9 F at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. In the near future, the model line could enter production alongside the Flying Spur, the GTC, the high performance Continental GT and the bespoke Mulsanne. Even though Bentley are relatively new in the luxury SUV market, the new design directions being explored with the EXP 9 F Concept suggest that Bentley doesn't want to leave any stone unturned in putting their best foot forward with the new concept.

The model looks to set a new benchmark for this type of vehicle while representing the pinnacle of the sport utility vehicle sector. In keeping with the Bentley tradition, the EXP 9 F comes with sculptured, flowing surfaces that merge different packages and purposes together to reflect Bentley's sporting character in a unified style statement.

The high-tech racing alloys on the EXP 9 F feature a centrally mounted wheel nut with the shape of turbine fan blades being used for the multiple spokes. Sporting a distinctly sporting profile the tailgate features swooping lines at the rear with a high level of versatility being offered by the two-part, ultra-wide split tailgate. The design of the rear light clusters is reflected in the elliptical shapes of the “rifled” inner surfaces and twin exhaust tailpipes. The forms and details of fighter jet engines are used to fashion the rear lights so that they spread their light outwards and glow from within.

In the cabin, the vehicle boasts of a fresh and contemporary interior ambiance that create a sense of British luxury with polished gunmetal, bronze and aluminum being used in conjunction with wood, leather and other traditional handcrafted elements. The load space, top roll and the seat backs are covered in saddle leather and the concept car design experiments with highly durable surfaces and soft-touch leather contrasts. TFT 'virtual' instrumentation is paired with analogue bezels and dials with a configurable display and subtly negative surface and instruments sitting atop a one-piece wood veneer on the upright dashboard design.

The traditional appearance of a British field sport jacket is echoed in the soft-touch leather diamond-quilted “shoulder line” pattern on the seats while a cooled compartment for glasses and champagne hidden within the rear armrest makes the cabin very comfortable for the passengers as well. With a 4+1 seating, the EXP 9 F is certainly the perfect vehicle for weekend excursions into the country. A W12 gasoline engine good for 600-hp will power the new Bentley SUV that will be on sale by 2015.
