| Qmilch, a chemical free fiber made from milk Posted: 29 Jun 2012 05:30 AM PDT Jaspreet Kaur Walia: Milk is an important part of our life and there is no household that can go without the supply of this white liquid even for a single day. But, it's time you stop drinking milk and start wearing it for that added glow. Anke Domaske from Germany has come up with a new textile that looks like silk and has been made using milk. Christened Qmilch, the textile is extremely soft and durable, folds like silk, but can be washed like cotton.
 Qmilch The German fashion designer and biochemist's sustainable textile made completely from organic milk was given the innovation award by the Textile Research Association, Germany, giving it the status of a new fabric. The Eco-friendly fiber will prove to be quite beneficial for people who suffer from skin allergies, which are result of chemical loaded textiles. The fashion designer along with her team reduced milk to a protein powder, which was later boiled and pressed into strands. The strands obtained during the whole process were then woven into fabric, which has been named Qmilch and is environmentally friendly in nature. The fabric can also be given a heavy texture by spinning strands in a rough way. Apart from this, the same fabric can be made to look shinny and smooth, which will feel soft just like a normal jersey material does. Qmilch is a new picture of green fashion, which will not only bring down waste produced when oil byproducts are used, but will also kill our dependency on such sources. It is bound to create ripples in the clothing and fashion industry because of its Eco-friendly properties. Via: Fastcodesign
