The X2 Impact Mouthguard to make you play safe

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 05:47 AM PDT

Shallu Sharma:

Warming up of muscles and practicing a sport keep you fit and healthy but sometimes injuries while playing sports can prove fatal. Safety plays an important role and to ensure a long and injury free athletic career new safety equipment are launched every now and then. The X2 Impact DVT2 Mouthguard by Benjamin Watkins is an impact-sensing mouth guard, which has been used for research at various universities like Stanford. The efficiency of the design can we well estimated from the fact that it has even won IDSA NW 2011 Shaggies Gold Award.

The X2 Impact determines head impacts in athletes and collects data so as to lessen traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The mouthguard achieves this by resting near the base of the skull (the back upper teeth) and triangulating the linear acceleration to the center of the skull using accelerometers and gyroscopes. It then sends live data wirelessly through an internal radio antenna that it has got. The final product was the result of severe hard work and research that was put in for months in looking for the best electronics and charging system. The assistance taken from Seattle consulting firm Anvil Studios also provided a helping hand to make the design a success.

Unlike previous models that were hand-assembled and bulky, this mouthguard encompasses the technology in compact mold. This part can then be coated with EVA discs to give it a custom look or over-molded with boiled and bitten EVA plastic.

Lenses to help soldiers focus on two different targets simultaneously

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 05:47 AM PDT

Radhicka S Saxena:

Battlefield is a place of utter chaos and you need to be on your guard all the time when you are in combat. Vigilance is one thing that you cannot do without and it seems there is a product in the market that can actually enhance a soldier's watchfulness on the field. You heard it right, a new product called iOptik can help you keep an eye on two points or sites at a time instead of one. After wearing these lenses, any human being will be able to focus on two locations at the same time, the foreground close at hand and also the background which is at a reasonable distance.

The contacts have been engineered by Innovega for the US Department of Defense and they have two different focusing lenses. The edge of your pupil will hold a display of the background whereas at the middle of the pupil you will be able to see the foreground. Also, your brain will be able to process both the images in front of your retina without any problem. Another accessory from this system is the HUD, which is essentially a pair of glasses on which images will be displayed.

The wider view acquired by wearing these lenses will enhance your fighting ability greatly and also reduce the risk of injury. However, the product is not the first of its kind. Similar such designs have been around in the form of bifocal lenses and glasses. Also, the Bionic contact lenses from the Aalto University of Finland and Washington University are on the same lines. With these lenses, virtual data like games or email will be launched right in front of your eyes. The iOptik lenses however are only available to the military at present but will be put up for consumer sale only in 2014.

The basic frame of El Rista has been crafted out of plywood and synthetic fabric has been used to make the canvas. The shelves in the design have been fashioned out of easy to clean aluminum and a clear glass forms the display case. Pasta was chosen as the food to be served as it is healthy, cost effective, has a lot of varieties and a lot of delicious sauces can be added to it. Pasta will be precooked, while the sauce will be prepared daily. This will be packed and sent to various operation centers or sale points on a truck along with clean dishes and water.

El Rista will comprise of a communication board, which will display the daily menu. Sauces will be vacuumed in plates and will be placed in the display window. The sauce will be further cooked in a pan and the precooked pasta will be warmed before serving. All the dishes will be categorized and neatly placed in a shelf. The cooked pasta will be served in a porcelain plate, which can be returned by the customer to get the money back paid for the dishes, keeping wastage at bay. These dirty dishes, when returned, are carried back to be cleaned and reused later. The design also accommodates enough storage space to keep trash bin, tableware, napkins and clean/dirty water tanks.

Radhicka S Saxena:

Very few structures are as benevolent as this one. The attractive fluorescent green building is actually a school for earthquake victims of Chile. The 8.8 magnitude quake hit in 2010 left many people in need of aid. The school called Santiago’s Escuela Santa Matilde was built by LAND Arquitectos to help children rehabilitate and resume their education again. The shiny green building is a visual delight and children will love to come here and study every day. The landmark structure also stresses on social equality and was actually built on principles recommended by Holcim.

The eco friendly edifice is made from local materials and is energy efficient. The double skin wall of 2 inches helps to save energy. Natural light is used to illuminate its interiors which have provisions like skylights. Also, the high roofed edifice has good air circulation and it never gets too humid in here. In fact, hot air seeps out through the skylight leaving the surroundings cool. The classrooms are rightly dubbed as atrapaluz, literally meaning light traps, as natural light gets reflected freely off its surface.

Moreover, the prefab structure is also highly cost efficient and only affordable materials were used in its construction. The structure has excellent insulation and ventilation. All long lasting materials were used to erect it and hence it will stand tall for years together. Another great thing about the structure is that it was built quite speedily, which makes it a good choice for disaster relief operations. In times of emergencies, such structures can be constructed quickly making it possible to provide aid in time.

Cascade has a wide range usage and will unfurl a luxurious bathing experience for seniors as well as still mobile shower people. The innovative bath unit comprises of a waterfall bath chair that will give birth to a relaxing environment. It will let a user savor sauna and natural spring experience as the warm water from the chair trickles down the back and shoulders of a user. The seat has a hydraulic back, which will lend the much required comfort when someone sits on the bath chair that has a swiveling base. The flow of water can be controlled with help of controls wedged on the arms of the chair.

The showerhead comes tagged with a lot of flexibility and can be used while sitting or standing. It can be easily pulled out of the chair's arm when one bathes. The back of the showerhead has been embedded with Magswitch technology, which makes it magnetic and in turn the showerhead will adhere to any metallic surface/wall. This makes sure that the showerhead doesn't fall down or get out of reach. The water flowing out of the showerhead can change directions as it can be pivoted on its rear joint, which makes sure that both the hands of a user remain free. Jaspreet Kaur Walia:

The future of cars is here! EXO, designed by Mark Beccaloni, is a concept car that follows all the rules of minimalism and touts to be the very first naked geodesic car all across the globe. The amazingly stylish coupe has all the safety features, ensuring a trouble free ride.

EXO is basically meant to be a city car and will bow down to all the short distance traveling needs. The external chassis has been crafted keeping safety first, while removing all the external elements. This gave the electric car lightweight characteristics and made it speedier, while cutting down its cost. The frame of EXO is completely geodesic as compared to other coupes made in the same category, like Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Car that just had a few geodesic traits.

The organic shape of the bewitching coupe has been wrapped in nurbs, which will undoubtedly draw attention. The detailing is awesome with rigid nurbs wrap used in an efficient way to place headlights, arrows, air vents and stops. The car comes injected with a lot of strength, thanks to the numerous folds in the design which resemble a crystalline structure. The use of LED lights further makes the design efficient as it will bring down the overall energy consumption. When brakes are applied, all the lights turn red and when acting neutral the shade remains blue.

EXO is a clear picture of fine designing and is bound to become one of the most favorite city cars in the near future because of its brilliant designing and staggering features.

When you have to fly, let the Aircraft come to you

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Shallu Sharma:

As time is flying, so are more flights. The need to conserve time is turning to act like a bookmark on everyone’s watch dial. The concept of a “Modular Aviation System” is emerging as a probable answer to a better flying experience with major cutbacks on waiting time while augmentation to quality time. The system is based on the idea that boarding should take place within the airport itself rather than inside the aircraft. The means of accomplishing this is by integrating the aircraft’s interior with the airport itself, thereby making the aircraft a part of the airport.

Modulair Aviation System

The entire aircraft’s interior layout is extracted section by section onto the airport. These sections are laid out as modules of the plane, which become parts of the terminal. Once, any single module or capsule has been loaded and made ready for take-off, the aircraft can be reloaded with the same. This operation can be repeated till the flight is all set to depart. A number of benefits accrue out of this system. For starters, passengers don’t have to wait as much. Boarding/deboarding becomes seamlessly comfortable and stressless. Flights depart as scheduled. With a liberal amount of modules, opportunities for new markets and businesses to spring can take shape. Modules can be designed solely by a single airline or in collaboration with another. This will allow multiple airlines to fly simultaneously in one flight.

The Modular Aviation System is also a boon for the luggage infrastructure with fewer glitches and faster dispatch. Industrial robots shall be responsible for positioning the modules. These robots will be working in clusters and will follow the requested composition of the capsule. The entire capsule is made ready at the terminal before the arrival of the passengers assuring an efficient working sub-system. The sub-system can be conveniently repaired or reshuffled anytime before the aircraft’s arrival.

Tell time by reading a reflection on the floor of your room

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 04:43 AM PDT

Radhicka S Saxena:

Unlike standard time pieces that ring and wake you up every morning, this timer is like a 3D projection of you average wall clock. The basic design consists of a ring suspended in air by thick and wiry cables. The shorter as well as longer arms of a clock are replaced by two sticks that tell the minutes and hours respectively. The position of the number 12 is also indicated clearly on the wooden circle by a raised bar. But the real difference between this alarm clock and any other standard timer is the way in which it works and tells time.

Alarm clock by Susse Sønderby Jensen

Created by a Danish design engineer, Susse Sønderby Jensen, this is one heck of a timepiece. You don't have to look at the clock to read the time as it is displayed as a reflection on the floor! The reflection comprises a circle and its two dots indicate the minutes and hours. The inventive clock will look really artful in any space. As it does not generate any tick tock noise, there will always be pin drop silence in your bedroom. This will create a soothing and peaceable atmosphere in any room. Moreover, the function of its alarm is also quite simple. You can either switch it off just as it rings or you can hit the snooze button to delay it by 10 seconds if you not ready to wake up.

The clock is a nifty blend of simple geometric shapes and electronic programming. The piece looks ethereal, light and elegant. This never seen before design is inspired from the clean cut and poised movements of ballerinas. The balance and strength these dancers exhibit is reflected in the design of the clock. As a result the piece has a simple form with clean sharp lines. Moreover, you don't see any electronic parts on the exterior. The step motor that makes the clock displaiers move is slotted right on top of the piece.

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 04:39 AM PDT

Radhicka S Saxena:

Boys love their toys! When they are little, they stay fixated on motor cars and GI-Joes and after growing up, it's all about cell phones and tablets. And any lad who aspires to be an engineer, plays around a lot with Lego building blocks. This, nonetheless, seems to be the case with Baris Eris who has built a charging dock for himself with Lego blocks. Although, he is not parting with the one already built, some easy to follow instructions are provided on his blog if you want to make a similar one for yourself.

RoboReel is a smart and sturdy motorized extension cord to keep injuries at bay

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 04:38 AM PDT

Radhicka S Saxena:

A cord reel that is as long as 50 feet will definitely come handy. And this device designed for connecting your appliances to electric points is really functional. Roboreel essentially consists of a globular chassis that holds a hardy 12 gauge electrical extension cord. The cord can be used as a freestanding piece and is also mountable. It embeds three controls, namely; the power button, retract switch and LED indicator lights. Let's take a look at this patented and award winning technology.

Portable Cord Reel
Portable Cord Reel

It will be really easy to handle this sturdy, portable and nice looking piece. Touch a button and the motorized cords winds up real fast. It is capable of a continuous 360 degree motion. The rewind button is placed at two points for user convenience. It is present at the top of the piece and also at the end of the extension cord. No whipping action will be generated when the cord is winding which helps to prevent injuries.

Picture Gallery

This cord that comes with a circuit breaker is completely safe to use. Firstly, you will not be able to wind it when it is not in use. It also stops winding if it is obstructed by an object or if someone accidentally steps on it. If the cord gets lopped off, then the power will shut down automatically in under a second. This prevents electrical injuries. And the redundant thermostats will keep accidental fires or overheating at bay.

The make of this rugged cord is very superior. It can resist oils, gases and chemicals. The plastic used in its construction can withstand high impact easily. The UV additive prevents its color from fading out. Its oversized motor is really tough and can easily hold out even ten thousand winds. Also, in case the cord gets damaged, it can be easily be replaced by a new one.
